Editorial method

Machines help us search. People decide what you read.

  • Literature and philosophy firstThe Review opens with books and ideas; politics, economics and technology follow, in proportion.
  • Two languages, read in the originalFrench and English sources sit side by side, untranslated, with Swedish where Gothenburg asks for it.
  • Nothing added merely to fill the pageAn empty section is preferable to a weak one. Events must have a real date, venue and source before they are listed.
  • Transparent assistanceEach night the Review is assembled with Arthur, Intradiegetic’s private research system, from curated publications and live research. Editing, standards and voice belong to the Editorial Team.
  • No trackingNo analytics, no advertising, no third-party cookies. Your email address is used for the Review and nothing else.

Write for us

We publish essays, criticism and city notes on literature, philosophy, writing and mythology, in English or French.

Send a short pitch to editor@voicesbynight.com, with a paragraph on the idea and a few lines about yourself. Put “Pitch:” and your working title in the subject line. Finished pieces of 800 to 2,500 words are welcome too, pasted into the body of the email.

We publish work written by people. Writers keep the rights to their work; we ask only for first publication online.

We read everything, and we reply to the pitches we take forward, usually within six weeks.
